Deadline Alerts

Government benefit, rebate, and funding programs often have limited application windows or funding caps. This page explains how we handle deadlines for the programs covered on this site and where to find the current, official deadline for each one.

How we handle deadlines

We do not publish a deadline unless it is stated on the official government page for that program. Some programs, like SNAP or Medicaid, accept applications year-round. Others, like some rebate or grant programs, open and close on specific dates or close early once funding runs out. Each article on this site notes which type of program it is and links to the official source for the current deadline.

Where to check deadlines directly

Virginia benefits (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, energy assistance): CommonHelp
Homeowner energy rebates: Virginia Energy Home Energy Rebates FAQ
Tax credits: filing deadlines follow the annual state and federal tax deadlines; see Virginia Tax and IRS.gov
Small business and nonprofit funding: Virginia SBSD Grant Programs and Grants.gov

A note on urgency

We will never tell you a deadline is closing "today" or create a false sense of urgency to get you to click. If a program's official page states a firm closing date, we state that date and its source plainly. If a program is ongoing or funding-dependent rather than date-dependent, we say that instead.

This page will be updated as we add dated alerts for specific programs. See our Editorial & Verification Policy for how we source and verify dates.
